VP Cheney Wrong?….NO!!!

Posted by italco on May 30, 2009

Just Another Lie

I will go on record to say that I do not believe that former VP Cheney is an evil man. I do not believe in the conspiracy theory that he and the past administration staged the 911 attacks in order to further there war agenda.

I do believe we were lied to about Iraq, I do believe the no bid contracts were handed out to help his friends at Haliburton, and I do beleive the past administration put this country at risk when they by-passed the Geneva Convention laws on tourture. http://www.unhchr.ch/html/menu3/b/91.htm

This being said, why does former VP Cheney find it necessary to defend their wrongful acts. Why does he Lie? Why did he lie in the past? President Obama isn’t attempting to bring up charges against anyone…leave it alone and go away.

This is my note to former VP Cheney;

Sir, you lost credibility over the Iraq war and the weapons of mass destruction. You lost credibility over the no bid contracts. You lost credibility when you messed up the Katrina disaster. You lost credibility when you decided you were above the Geneva Convention…please Sir, you have caused enough damage.  Please retire and go away. You and the the rest of the “hate” squad are destroying the republican party. Put your country first for once. Follow in the footsteps of President Bush and retire! Please !http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0509/23108.html

“Sen. Carl Levin, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, says former Vice President Dick Cheney’s claims — that classified CIA memos show enhanced interrogation techniques like waterboarding worked — are wrong.

Former VP Dick Cheney has been a vocal defender of Bush-era interrogation techniques.

Levin, speaking at the Foreign Policy Association’s annual dinner in New York on Wednesday, said an investigation by his committee into detainee abuse charges over the use of the techniques — now deemed torture by the Obama administration — “gives the lie to Mr. Cheney’s claims.” http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/05/29/levin.cheney/

Obama

Your one last place to hide will be taken over by the government with the newly appointed “cyber czar”…just think, all those bloggers out there who have been spreading there “hate” messages all over the internet will now have to worry about the government watching their every move. If I were them, I would go deep into the internet underground and form an internet rebellion to counter such an invasion of government control. Not only has the government silenced your voice in congress now they are appointing a “czar” to silence your voice online…I see computers being shut down all over the world……I wonder if those of us who have praised President Obama will be rewarded for being good boys and girls? (in case you take this seriously…stop it…they aren’t after us…lol)

“To oversee an enhanced security system for the nation’s computer networks, Obama is creating a “cyber czar” as part of a long-awaited plan stemming from a review he ordered shortly after taking office.

On Friday, Obama is expected to lay out broad goals for dealing with cyber threats while depicting the U.S. as a digital nation that needs to provide the education required to keep pace with technology and attract and retain a cyber-savvy work force. He also is expected to call for a new education campaign to raise public awareness of the challenges and threats related to cyber security.”

“Government and military officials have acknowledged that U.S. computer networks are constantly assailed by attacks and scans, ranging from nuisance hacking to more nefarious probes and attacks. Some suggest that the actions at times are a form of cyber espionage from other nations, such as China.

Obama is not expected to announce who will get the job during Friday’s unveiling of the review, according to an administration official who spoke on condition of anonymity because the selection process is ongoing. Other officials close to the issue say a handful of experts — both in and out of government — are under consideration.” http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090529/ap_on_go_pr_wh/us_obama_cyber_struggles

Governors Collaborate to do their part!!

Posted by italco on May 19, 2009

news governors

In September NGA Chair Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty launched the 2007-2008 NGA Chair’s Initiative – Securing a Clean Energy Future, proclaiming “America is ready for bold, innovative energy policies that will make us safer, more independent and better stewards of the planet. We’ve been asleep at the switch for too long – the time for action is now.”

 Securing a Clean Energy Future (SCEF) is designed to:

  • Identify new opportunities for states to save energy, support clean alternatives and encourage deployment of new technologies;
  • Convene high-profile events and stakeholder meetings to advance this agenda;
  • Produce toolkits and guides that analyze and examine current best practices;
  • Establish state challenge grants for enhanced energy planning;
  • Explore state compacts and state-industry partnerships that address initiative policy goals.
  • Raise state and national awareness of the importance of clean energy;

In November, Minnesota Gov. Pawlenty and SCEF Taskforce co-chair Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius announced a groundbreaking public-private partnership with Google and Intel Corporation’s Climate Savers Computing Initiative, that aims to reduce energy use from computers, servers and related equpment.

In December, the SCEF Initiative held the Governors’ Summit on Alternative Transportation Fuels and Advanced Vehicles, in Tampa, Florida. Florida Gov. Charlie Crist joined Gov. Pawlenty, Gov. Sebelius, and Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer during a Governors’ Roundtable to discuss alternative transportation fuels, clean vehicles and other technologies and policies that offer the potential to reduce our dependence on foreign oil and lower greenhouse gas emissions.

At the Governors Summit the governors released A Call to Action, a report outlining the current energy challenges the United States faces, defining the role of states in developing clean energy in the future and presenting a roadmap for states interested in achieving the goals of the SCEF Initiative.

For more information on the Securing a Clean Energy Future initiative, please visit www.nga.org/ci. To speak with one of NGA’s experts on this issue, please contact the NGA Office of Communications at 202-624-5301.

This is “OUR” President!!

Posted by italco on May 17, 2009

Obama

“President Barack Obama strode head-on Sunday into the stormy abortion debate and told graduates at America’s leading Roman Catholic university that both sides must stop demonizing one another.Obama acknowledged that “no matter how much we want to fudge it … the fact is that at some level, the views of the two camps are irreconcilable.” But he still implored the University of Notre Dame’s graduating class and all in the U.S. to stop “reducing those with differing views to caricature.

Obama entered the arena to thunderous applause and a standing ovation from many in the crowd of 12,000. But as the president began his commencement address, at least three protesters interrupted it. One yelled, “Stop killing our children.” The graduates responded by chanting “Yes we can,” the slogan that became synonymous with Obama’s presidential campaign. Obama seem unfazed, saying Americans must be able to deal with things that make them “uncomfortable.”

The president ceded no ground. But he said those on each side of the debate “can still agree that this is a heart-wrenching decision for any woman to make, with both moral and spiritual dimensions. “So let’s work together to reduce the number of women seeking abortions by reducing unintended pregnancies, and making adoption more available, and providing care and support for women who do carry their child to term.”

He said he favored “a sensible conscience clause” that would give anti-abortion health care providers the right to refuse to perform the procedure.”

President Obama does not shrink away from controversy or opposing views. Here is a man who will walk into a room where he knows there is oposition to his own veiws and still give value to those who opose him. What is there not to respect. He shows us respect. He shows respect to the conservatives, the republicans, the moderates, the liberals, the christians, the muslims, the jews, the athists, and the world.

That is what I voted for and that is what I expect.

It is ok to disagree and we should at least be able to reach consensus on that. We are all different people with differing cultures. We all have our own set of perceptions that are based on where we live and how we were/are raised.

We should all be able to get behind “our” president and put country first. The issues, we can work out and find compromises that are win/win for all sides.

This should be the expectation of all our leaders.

“The American Clean Energy and Security Act”

Posted by italco on May 15, 2009

Environment

Chairman Henry A. Waxman and Subcommittee Chairman Edward J. Markey introduced “H.R. 2454, The American Clean Energy and Security Act.”  The Energy and Commerce Committee will begin markup of the bill on Monday, May 18, 2009, at 1:00 p.m., and will complete consideration before the Memorial Day recess.

“The legislation will create millions of new clean energy jobs, save consumers hundreds of billions of dollars in energy costs, promote America’s energy independence and security, and cut global warming pollution,” said Chairman Waxman.  “In support of these goals, this legislation ensures that consumers and industries in all regions of the country are protected.  I look forward to working with all members of the Committee to approve this legislation to make America the world leader in new clean energy and energy efficiency technologies.” http://energycommerce.house.gov/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1622:chairmen-waxman-and-markey-introduce-the-american-clean-energy-and-security-act&catid=155:statements&Itemid=81

The latest version of the House Democratic leadership’s climate bill would give away for free up to 85% of the pollution permits created to launch a proposed system to cap greenhouse-gas emissions, according to details of the proposal released.

The free pollution permits and other compromises are part of the multibillion dollar price that House Energy and Commerce Chairman Henry A. Waxman (D., Calif.) paid to win support from moderate House Democrats to clear the way for a committee vote on his sweeping climate and energy bill by Memorial Day. The measure still faces an uncertain future in the Senate. Mr. Waxman and moderate Democrats outlined their deal earlier this week. Those permits could be sold, and would have value because the overall quantity of allowed industrial greenhouse gas emissions would be capped under the law.

The article goes on by breaking down the percentage of gases permitted based on industry and explains how both sides of the issue will have to find compromise to make this work.

The president and Mr. Waxman originally had pushed for utilities to produce up to 25% of their power from renewable sources, with a certain percentage offset by energy efficiency gains. Utilities were to attain that goal by 2025. But now, as part of his compromise, Mr. Waxman cut the requirement to 20% by 2020, with governors able to reduce the renewable portion if they increase energy efficiency.

States will initially receive 10% of the greenhouse-gas allowances for free, and could use their value to finance investments in renewable energy and energy efficiency. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124240088772024143.html?mod=googlenews_wsj

“Beat The Drum”

It is time to end corruption in government!

How can “We The People” make a difference?

First, We need to demand that accepting gifts is an not an acceptable practice. This is where corruption starts. We must end the practice of accepting gratuities as common place in congress and our government agencies.

Then, We need to vote wisely in 2010, pick the candidate based on ethics not on just their moral values.

Open secrets is a web sight that will let you view any and all contributions received from any politician in congress. Go here and research those you will be voting for in the up coming 2010 elections http://www.opensecrets.org/elections/index.php.

Another great website is “Congress Merge”. This website allows you to click on your state and view the contact info on any candidate that is up for re-election, their phone numbers, and their voting history http://www.congressmerge.com/onlinedb/index.htm this is an absolute must when making an informed decision on the candidates in your voting area. Another resource sent in by blogger ( Ann Nonomus) http://www.congress.org/congressorg/home/ is an excellent tool in canidate research.

We can get involved in our Party!! Go to your party website and help them out. http://www.gop.com/ / http://www.democrats.org/ /or any one of the political parties that participated in the 2008 election http://2008election.procon.org/viewresource.asp?resourceID=001570

We can also, Demand our ethics laws to be enforced;

Beat The Drum…lets force them to be ethical.

Don’t Be A Dick, Cheney!

Posted by italco on May 13, 2009

asshole1

Former Vice President Dick Cheney may have largely stayed under the radar during his time in the Bush administration, but he is not going softly into that good night, seemingly launching a one-man campaign to fight for his legacy and — in his view — the safety of the nation.

He took his case to the airwaves again Tuesday, and lashed out at the Obama team’s decision to soon hand over 44 photos showing abuse of detainees in Iraq and Afghanistan to the American Civil Liberties Union as a judge had ordered. Cheney said releasing the photos would only make the country less safe.

The photographs are part of a 2003 Freedom of Information Act court case by the ACLU for all information relating to the treatment of detainees. Courts had ruled in favor of releasing the photographs into public view even though Bush administration officials argued that releasing the photographs would violate the Geneva Conventions, which protect prisoners of war and detained civilians “against insults and public curiosity” and it would also violate U.S. obligations toward detainees and could even prompt outrage against the United States. http://www.abcnews.go.com/Politics/story?id=7574605&page=1

Where have you been VP Cheney? The outrage was going on the entire time you were in Office! Now, you want to protect the detainees? You are just trying to cover your own ass. Go back to sleep, sir. You were and are, continuing to be an embarassment to your party and this country. Don’t worry, President Obama will clean this one up for you too.

UPDATE: President Barack Obama is seeking to block the release of hundreds of photos showing prisoners in Iraq and Afghanistan being abused, reversing his position after military commanders warned that the images could stoke anti-American sentiment and endanger U.S. troops. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_pentagon_abuse_photos

No one wants to create problems but we need to be careful we are not doing this just to cover up past administrators mistakes. Our troops have my toal support!

Pakistan Fighting It’s Own Battles!!

Posted by italco on May 13, 2009

PD*28740574

The Pakistan army, which is fighting in Swat Valley and two neighbouring districts in North-West Frontier Province (NWFP), is planning to begin a new offensive in the badlands of the Waziristan tribal areas as early as next month, sources told The Daily Telegraph.

“The army is planning to go into Waziristan, possibly in June, which will involve huge numbers of troops in an attempt to establish some sort of state control over the area,” said a source close to the Pakistani military.

The Pakistan army has already deployed 130,000 troops in NWFP and the tribal areas. Some 80,000 of that figure are members of the paramilitary Frontier Corps. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/pakistan/5314166/Pakistan-army-plans-to-open-second-front-against-Taliban.html

What a wonderful change of strategy. Has anyone else noticed the change? The mighty American military isn’t leading the charge against the Taliban. Thank you, Pakistan! I admire a country that fights for the freedoms of it’s citizen against the threat of tyranny…I can support a country that will help themselves. Pakistan is earning the respect of the world for the actions they are taking against terrorism.
