Sam Granato for US Senator?

Posted by italco on August 16, 2010

I was able to catch up with Utah Democrat Senate Candidate, Sam Granato at the Centro Civico Mexicano in Salt lake City. Leaning against the back wall of the autotorium, I asked Sam 3 basic questions…

1) Where do you stand on Immigration reform?

Sam told me he has had the pleasure of working directly with the hispanic community here in utah and supports their efforts towards finding a viable solution to the issue. He does not agree 100% with the Whitehouse approach to throw $600 million at the problem and expect more  “policing”  to work. He is willing to work within both parties Dem/Rep as a moderate thinker to develope solutions that take into consideration the concerns of the undocumented immigrant as well as the citizen of Utah who send him to washington to represent their concerns. He is for working towards a comprehensive reform package that “does not” include putting undocumeted immigrants in box cars and shipping them back to their perspective countries.

2) His thoughts on Ethics in Washington?

He looked me in the eye and said…”it’s broken and needs to be fixed”. Greed is the root of corruption and just like in business, ethics have to practiced in order to bring credibity to the office. Ethics isn’t something we just talk about, it is a life style. He assured me that he has always followed ethical business practices throughout his business life and would “not” be swayed by the $ of corporate lobbyists. He will represent Utah citizens, not industry.

He did clarify that industry is needed to create jobs but not at the expense of the environment or un-ethical business practices. We just need to eliminate the conflict of interest when governing WallStreet.

3) How he was going to bridge the divide between the liberals and conservative so Washington can start working together to get things done?

He told me it is not his intent to go to Washington and be a “yes man” to President Obama. His intent is to represent the voices of his constituents and the United States Of America. To best serve his country, it is his duty to work with the republicans as well as the democrates so that all voices are heard and considered. He reiterated that his moderate views affords him the ability to see both sides of the issue and make rational decisions that best serve America and Utah.

After conducting this interview I came to the conclusion that Sam Granato is the best choice for Utah.

Sam Granato represents my beliefs in how politics should be conducted. With thoughfullness, integrity, ethics, and good common sense politics.

I proudly endorse Sam Granato for US Senator

Coffee Party vs Tea Party Debate?

Posted by italco on July 26, 2010

Annabel Park of the Coffee Party is challenging Sarah Palin of the Tea Party to a debate! Proceeds to benefit victims in the Gulf!! http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=106031572784669&ref=mf

“Roger Ebert thinks Annabel Park of the Coffee Party “should be “in conversation w/ Sarah Palin.”

Annabel Park says “Actually, I’d like to debate her. The debate can be a fundraiser for the victims of the Gulf Oil Spill and 99ers (unemployed for over 99 weeks, not covered by the benefit extension). What do you say, Sarah?””

GOP…still no plan?

Posted by italco on July 17, 2010

Sometime after Labor Day, House Minority Leader John A. Boehner plans to unveil a blueprint of what Republicans will do if they take back control of the chamber. He promises it will be a full plate of policy proposals that will give voters a clear sense of how they would govern.

It’s not that Boehner (Ohio) is arguing for a cease-fire. The debate among Republicans comes down to this: The speaker-in-waiting, for all his love of political combat, thinks that voters will not trust GOP candidates if their attacks don’t also provide at least some substance. The consultants argue that public anger, if properly stoked, alone can carry the party over the finish line. In their view, getting bogged down in the issues is a distraction and even a potential liability. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/07/16/AR2010071606245.html?wpisrc=nl_headline

At some point and time I really believed the GOP would formulate plans for the betterment of America. I truly believed they would have written legislation that would have competed with or even enhanced Democrat proposals.

When will they learn that anger is not in the “best interest” of America. Anger is NOT the way to win an election.

We can see you…we see your plan and it amounts to nothing more than the first empty document Boehner slammed down on his podium 2 years ago.

Before the GOP does anything…they really should consult with Sarah first. At least she puts the word “Hell” in front of “NO”

A List of Undocumented Immigrants? Really?

Posted by italco on July 12, 2010

The list — 1,300 names long — claims to be illegal immigrants living in Utah.

Sent to the Standard Examiner last week, it came from an anonymous sender claiming to represent a group of people concerned about immigration.

“We are tired of seeing our country — and our state — continue to allow illegal immigrants to remain here,” writes the sender, who notes copies were sent to at least a dozen agencies and media outlets. http://www.standard.net/topics/immigration/2010/07/12/illegal-immigrant-list-sent-standard-examiner

This is wrong in so many ways…talk about profiling!!

Someone has stolen medical records from somewhere.   I hope they prosecute the sender.

It is a crime to steal personal documents.

You can not commit a crime to uncover another crime or to  further a cause even if your cause was just.

What are you so afraid of? Why such obvious prejudice?

Can You Say “Supreme Court Justice Sotomayor”?

Posted by italco on July 1, 2010

“President Obama said Thursday that the U.S. immigration system “offends our most basic American values” and blamed Republican opposition for thwarting crucially needed change.
It was the third time in as many days that Obama singled out Republicans as an obstructionist force, blaming them in his earlier appearances for defending oil giant BP in the aftermath of the Gulf Coast oil spill and for opposing stronger financial regulatory legislation.

The president’s remarks this week represented the clearest preview yet of the message the White House intends to highlight in this year’s midterm election: Republicans’ stubborn refusal to help solve national problems.” http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-obama-immigration-20100702,0,6120193.story

Back in January of this year, I wrote an article called “2010 In Da House” https://italco.wordpress.com/2010/01/02/2010-in-da-house/

The article describes the hispanic and minority vote effect on the 2010 elections. It also factors in the influence Sarah Palin would have on the outcome. It will be interesting to see if these factors hold true….

If only Utah had strong Democrat Candidates that could reach out to their minority voters and hear their side of the “Immigration Reform Bill”.

Can they forgive the GOP for their party line “NO” vote against Supreme Court Justice Sotomayor?

Don’t take their vote for granted!!
