Don’t Be A Dick, Cheney!
Posted by italco on May 13, 2009
Former Vice President Dick Cheney may have largely stayed under the radar during his time in the Bush administration, but he is not going softly into that good night, seemingly launching a one-man campaign to fight for his legacy and — in his view — the safety of the nation.
He took his case to the airwaves again Tuesday, and lashed out at the Obama team’s decision to soon hand over 44 photos showing abuse of detainees in Iraq and Afghanistan to the American Civil Liberties Union as a judge had ordered. Cheney said releasing the photos would only make the country less safe.
The photographs are part of a 2003 Freedom of Information Act court case by the ACLU for all information relating to the treatment of detainees. Courts had ruled in favor of releasing the photographs into public view even though Bush administration officials argued that releasing the photographs would violate the Geneva Conventions, which protect prisoners of war and detained civilians “against insults and public curiosity” and it would also violate U.S. obligations toward detainees and could even prompt outrage against the United States. http://www.abcnews.go.com/Politics/story?id=7574605&page=1
Where have you been VP Cheney? The outrage was going on the entire time you were in Office! Now, you want to protect the detainees? You are just trying to cover your own ass. Go back to sleep, sir. You were and are, continuing to be an embarassment to your party and this country. Don’t worry, President Obama will clean this one up for you too.
UPDATE: President Barack Obama is seeking to block the release of hundreds of photos showing prisoners in Iraq and Afghanistan being abused, reversing his position after military commanders warned that the images could stoke anti-American sentiment and endanger U.S. troops. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_pentagon_abuse_photos
No one wants to create problems but we need to be careful we are not doing this just to cover up past administrators mistakes. Our troops have my toal support!

He is trying to set the platform for his next campaign. I hope people aren’t stupid enough to vote for him either. That being said I don’t think the photos should be released period.

I just hope that by not showing the pics that we don’t end up causing anti-american sentiment. We may just be damned if we do and damned if we don’t.

Hi Vicky, Yeah they got me yesterday…banned once again. I am sure it was because they finally figured out who I was (someone squeeled..lol). No big deal…I was ready to hang it up over there anyway. I like it here better. I am finally figuring out all this stuff and it is getting fun. I can’t wait for the 2010 Countdown to begin.

Love someone from the Bush administration trying to use the Geneva Convention as protection for prisoners of war. So according to Cheney, torture okay under Convention, pictures not okay. Wonderful.

No, I don’t believe he is an embarrassment to his party, but to everyone else he is! 😉

With his party being made up of conservatives and moderates I would say at least 25% of his party is hanging their heads with shame. There is only one reason this man will step into the spotlight and it isn’t because he puts country first…lol
